About Mahj Haus
Mahj Haus was founded by two sisters, Christine Callahan and Janet Pearce, who set out one winter to learn everything about mahjong—not just for fun, but to sharpen their minds and connect in a new way beyond their usual daily walks and dinners out.
What began as a shared curiosity quickly turned into a weekly ritual. They gathered a rotating group of friends around the tiles, creating a space that became the highlight of everyone’s week. With every hand played, they discovered something deeper: mental challenge, laughter, connection, and a powerful sense of presence.
As they played, a theme emerged: so many women did plenty for their bodies—pickleball, Pilates, strength-training workouts—but almost nothing for their minds. Mahjong filled that gap. It was joyful, mentally engaging, and deeply social.
Inspired to share the game’s magic more broadly, Christine and Janet created Mahj Haus—a welcoming way to learn, play, and gather, where tradition meets modern-day community. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, Mahj Haus invites you to pull up a chair, mix the tiles, and discover the beauty of this timeless game.
